We are ready to work on the basement of our beautiful historic building. The glorious old logs that are 200 years old need reinforcement to support the main and second floors of the house.
HSSD and the Forward House team envision a bright future for the Forward House as a year round inter-generational, multi-functional community space that is accessible to all. The generous first floor open space will be designed to support a variety of private / public activities such as lectures, art exhibits, group meetings, book clubs, and educational workshops. There will be WIFI, comfortable seating, a bookshelf with reference books to browse and workstations to access HSSD publications and research. The second floor will be transformed into a Workspace Studio for HSSD members to prepare promotional events, conduct research, plan activities and store HSSD’s collection of historic artefacts.
With generous support from the community, our own fundraising events and some physical work, last year we made great progress. We were able to remove the addition that was leaking badly from the back of the house. We also had the two chimneys repaired and in the last week of May 2025 we had the roof replaced. Now it is time to work on the foundation of the home so that we can start turning the house into the Cultural Centre that we want in the future.
